Worth Takeaway Makes Sandwiches Worth Driving to Mesa For
6.5 Yumpoints | Tied for #26 in Phoenix | Tied for #7 in the East Valley
Sandwiches are usually kind of boring—certainly not something you go out of your way for. But the sandwiches at Worth Takeaway are different. The bread is better, the meat is better, the spreads are better. Go with a friend (or two) and split the sandwiches up just so you can try more. They’re all delicious. Even better, get the burger and really savor those perfectly cooked fries.
Where: East Valley (Mesa)

Reservations: Nope
Tip: Breakfast at Worth is also delicious, although I’d recommend following it up with a pour over at Pair Cupworks inside of Cider Corps down the street.

Scratch-made sandwiches served your way—as wraps, on salads, in bowls, or classic style—are what bring crowds to this Downtown Mesa shop every day. The “cute, trendy little place” with “beyond amazing” sandwiches was the brainchild of married owners Kelsey and Jim Bob Strothers, who opened it in 2016.

Mesa has quietly become one of the hottest new dining destinations in the Valley, and that has a fair amount to do with Worth Takeaway, a craft sandwich and coffee shop located inside a sleek-but-tight 15-seat dining room. Worth was pretty much an instant hit when it opened in 2016, so much so that in 2019, it expanded next door, adding another 15 seats.

AZ Central: 100 essential restaurants in metro Phoenix: The best places to dine in 2024
This downtown Mesa sandwich spot is one of the few restaurants where it's so hard for me to resist trying something new every time. Worth Takeaway is perfect for satisfying the chicken sandwich craving that comes up all too often for me, but the Cuban, French dip and Italian grinder are also on my must-order list. The struggle is real.
