Hush Public House Is Peak Strip-Mall Fine Dining
6 Yumpoints | Tied for #31 in Phoenix | #8 in Scottsdale
Hush is part of a long tradition of Phoenix culinary greatness—it’s in a completely anonymous strip mall devoid of character. And like all the strip-mall treasures before it, once you walk in you’re greeted with life and smells, and you immediately know that this place could thrive in any city on the planet. But the star here isn’t the vibes, it’s the food. The food is incredible. Everything is good (including the drinks). But if you want to hone in on the thing that really makes Hush work, it’s the meat. You might be persuaded to order something that sounds fancy, but the real move is the Italian beef, which is somehow worth all of its $40 price tag.
Where: Scottsdale (N. Scottsdale)
Website: hushpublichouse.com

Tip: If you’re there on a date and think the charcuterie board will be a perfect appetizer, think again. The board here is a feast meant for 4-6.

Phoenix New Times: The Top 100 Restaurants
When it opened in 2019, Hush quickly became one of the most exciting places to eat in metro Phoenix. It is the product of many melding influences. Like owner and chef Dom Ruggiero's signature oxtail-centric riff on a Chicago-style Italian beef sandwich, molten with cheese and showered with soulful giardiniera, all the elements here come together harmoniously. Then there's the room itself: intimate, filled with cordial chatter and nostalgic rock, cooking sounds and smells washing out from a wide-open kitchen. It all primes you for Ruggiero's food.

Thrillist: The Scottsdale Restaurants You Should Be Dining at Right Now
If you go to Hush Public House, you can see some resemblance to the upscale yet warm atmosphere at Fire at Will, chef Dom Ruggiero’s other restaurant. But that’s where the resemblance stops, as Hush Public House’s menu takes things up a notch. Start with the butcher’s country pate or the crab hush puppies before moving onto some superb pasta dishes; the Gnocchi Sardi and Malfadine are both made with Sonoran Pasta Co.
