The Gladly is the Only Place to Find the Original Chopped Salad in Phoenix

The Gladly

You can technically order whatever you want at the Gladly, but the correct order is the Original Chopped Salad. Did I write this exact same sentence for Citizen Public House? Ugh. Anyways, you should really get the salad, even if you think you don’t like salad. Even if you don’t think you like the individual ingredients on this particular salad. Just get it. The cocktails are awesome too—I always go for something with an ingredient I would never pull off at home, like anything barrel aged or the one with clarified Honey Nut (I’m assuming Cheerios) cereal milk.

Details

The Gladly is a lunch and dinner spot by the Biltmore on Camelback. Grab a reservation if you’re going on a busy night and dress business casual. Maybe it’s the location, but every time I go—no matter the time—I feel like I’m just getting off work, blowing off some steam.

Eater: 10 Phoenix Restaurants With Fantastic Burgers

Chef-owner Bernie Kantak is probably most famous for the legendary Stetson chopped salad on the menu at Citizen Public House, the first restaurant he and partner Andrew Fritz opened in Old Town Scottsdale over a decade ago. But Kantak comes from a family of butchers, and many of his meat dishes at both restaurants are legendary as well, including the Commander Hamburger at the Gladly. A charred but juicy patty, fashioned from a blend of certified Angus beef and brisket, sits on a Noble Bread bun that’s been given a swipe of “special sauce.” The fixings are pretty straightforward: lettuce, tomato, onion, and sweet pickle, which supports the argument that simplicity is the height of sophistication.

Eater: Where to Savor Superb Whiskey in Phoenix

Although the Gladly has a local cult following in the Biltmore area for its Original Chopped Salad, its whiskey menu deserves the same kind of attention. This is not your standard darkened room with heavy wooden features. The Gladly’s light and airy design is welcoming alongside its five pages of whiskey choices. Its Scotch selection is even broken down into regional selections like Islay and Campbeltown, giving drinkers access to bottles not commonly found.
