Tía Carmen Is the Perfect Scottsdale Resort Restaurant

4.5 Yumpoints | Tied for #51 in Phoenix | Tied for #13 in Scottsdale

Tía Carmen is about as pretty as a hotel restaurant can get. Every detail is well thought out—so many textures, so many details, such a nice flow. And if you show up as a vacationer or a staycationer, the vibe is just about perfect. You can casually flow in, flow out, pop to your room for a sec, and head over to the incredible J.W. Marriott pool for a swim. And the food at Tía Carmen is really quite good. Sure, parts of the menu feel a little safe to appeal to a broad resort crowd (for example, I don’t see a lot of NY strips on Mexican food menus), but what’s there is delicious. If you’re in the area and are looking for vacation vibes, this is your spot.

Phoenix New Times: The Top 100 Restaurants

The ambiance of Tia Carmen is intentional in its efforts to honor the Southwest region and Mexico. As you walk through the large wooden doors, you’re greeted by a down-to-earth vibe and quiet elegance. Chef Angelo Sosa wanted to re-create a reminder of his experience with his Aunt Carmen when he first learned food was his love language. The menu is not only a homage to his roots and to indigenous people but also a festival of culinary delights.

Phoenix Magazine: Phoenix Dining Review: Tia Carmen

Like so many of us during this never-ending pandemic, the bigwigs at JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa felt the need to make a dramatic life change – specifically, to elevate the resort’s food and beverage game and make the property a dining destination. The result of their brainstorming is Tía Carmen, a breathtaking new Contemporary Southwestern restaurant capable of singlehandedly putting Desert Ridge – long a restaurant wasteland, let’s admit it – on the Valley’s culinary map.
